I have been a Defense Investigator/PI for 22 years and worked some very high profile cases and we never had enough money to do what they (Defense Team) is claiming they have to do before they can go to trial in a year.  DUH - I never had a Death Case (which I think this will be if they put it back on the table) go to trial in less than 3 years after the murder.  The reasons for that are many and one is the Prosecution would divy out the investigation reports a little at a time, evidence photos and forensic reports months later only to cause the Defense to scramble around and get experts and analyze the info.  We were allowed a small budget for our own experts but not to the degree that this case has had so far.  It has always been a Defense tactic to put off the case for at lease 3 years as to let the news coverage die down, the public outrage to back off and get involved in other issues and ......for witnesses to move away, forget the fresh details of what they saw or heard OR forget what lies they told in the beginning to inflame the whole issue and be on television and at the center point of attention, which is common.  3 years later the Defense had a chance of finding some jurors that don't remember, never heard of or are willing to remain impartial.  BUT where is all the money coming from????? In indigent cases where the attorney is appointed, the county foots the bill or the state foots the bill for the Defense and believe me, they put a tight limit on all spending.  I can't tell you how many hours I worked without  pay to make sure my client was afforded a good defense and the valuable info got out there.  Where is the money coming from???? Even though I am now retired after 22 years, my take on this case is this chick is SICK and her parents have known this for awhile and not been able to control her.

Thanks Micki...

I heard there was some donations from an anonymous RICH donor to pay for Linda Kenney-Baden... and the rest of the high price media whores.

Yes... I wonder if this will be done in one year. However, have had several that went to trial in less than a year, or just over.

This one does need to calm down, though, so I think you're right that it will take longer.

Mickipi,
Drawing from your 22 years experience, how unusual is it for Defense Experts to publicly proclaim they are working for the Defense before they have even seen the evidence?

I have only been a trial watcher for a few years, but I've never seen this happen before. It seems as though it would put the Defense in an awkward position if these presumably unbiased  experts opinion didn't support the theory of defense after reviewing the evidence..... any thoughts?

Thank you, MickiPI for your insightful post. It's great to learn from the real insiders on stuff like this. I think LKB's "rich donor" is herself. LOL Bottom line, any def atty involved in this case has a reason BEYOND actually helping CA. Same with Geragos and Scott Peterson - look at him as a media TH expert now getting paid beaucoup bucks. I could go on and on but they all have an ulterior motive, except the public defenders, imo. If Casey and her parents had any sense, they would insist on a public defender actually.

But that ain't never gonna happen 'cause no matter how you slice it, this family is media and attention hungry whether they want to admit it or not. And they found their perfect foil in Jose Baez, the wet behind the ears atty who actually thinks this kind of fame is going to help his career.

Keep it real!

I think it's a news organization, or a publisher.  They would have the bucks to hire Lee.

Lee charged 100,000 in Spector's first trial.  Baden didn't charge so much and Sptiz only charged about $45,000 for his testimony first trial.  But all these experts add up which is why I think it's a news agency or publisher or some other "promotion" events or individual who as purchased the rights to her story.

I remember Michael Baden saying he had billed somewhere around 80K by the time he hit the stand in Phil Spector 1. I also remember AJ giving him chit over it as he hadn't even looked at some slides he was testifiying about, and that he didn't turn in his Official (teenie tiny) Report until something like, 11 days before the case (or was it before he took the stand?)

His final tally could have been over the 100K mark when all was said and done.

Besides M. Baden probably gave a discount because the Mrs. was making the big bucks off of the case, too.
